The MTV VMAs on August 20, 2018 featured some memorable and entertaining events. It was the 35th annual VMAs, and it was better than ever. The VMAs is an event presented by MTV to honor the best music videos. Singers and musicians gather every year to perform and receive awards. This year’s MTV VMAs theme is “Everything Might Happen”, and it’s certainly full of surprises. The VMAs this year didn’t include a host, something completely different to the one last year which was hosted by Katy Perry. Nevertheless, it was still an amazing night filled with iconic moments.
That night, Jennifer Lopez took the stage and sang some of her greatest hits, including “ On the Floor” and “Dance Again” . The singer was nominated for three awards, and brought home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Collaboration on her new song with Dinero.
Another notable performance was by pop star Ariana Grande. She performed one of her newest song: “ God Is A Woman” that night. Her performance was amazing and left many breathless. It was her first live performance of the track, and Grande never fails to impress. The singer also won the ‘Best Pop’ prize at the VMAs from Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Pink, and Shawn Mendes who were also nominated for the award.

Rap artist Cardi B was nominated with the most award that night. It was her first public appearance since having her daughter, Kulture, about two months ago. She was nominated for 12 awards, and won 3 awards including the ‘New Artist’, ‘Collaboration’ and the ‘Song of the Summer’ awards. When winning the awards, she thanked her fans’ love and support by saying: “It’s genuine, it’s beautiful, and that’s something that God gives me that money can’t buy.”
Overall, it was an awesome night filled with laughter. The VMAs is always something special, and we can’t wait until the next VMAs next year. The next big event happening to celebrate the music industry is the Grammy Awards. It’s set to happen on February 11, 2019 and we certainly can’t wait for that to come as well.
